Eligibility Requirements

Proficient in English
-
Hold at least Private Pilot Certificate or apply for PPL along with Instrument rating
-
Receive ground and log ground training, or complete a ground school course
-
Receive a logbook endorsement or certificate required to take the written exam

Hold current medical
-
Receive endorsement to take checkride
-
Pass written test​
Aeronautical Knowledge
-
FAR’s that apply to flight operations under IFR
-
Appropriate information that applies to flight operations under IFR in the AIM
-
ATC system and procedures for instrument flight operations
-
IFR navigation and approaches by use of navigation systems
-
Use of IFR en route and instrument approach procedure charts
-
Procurement and use of aviation weather reports and forecasts and the elements of forecasting weather trends based on that information and personal observation of weather conditions
-
Safe and efficient operation of aircraft under instrument flight rules and conditions
-
Recognition of critical weather situations and windshear avoidance
-
Aeronautical decision making and judgment
-
Crew resource management
Aeronautical Experience Requirements
-
50 hours of Cross-Country PIC
-
40 hours of actual or simulated instrument
-
15 of which must have been received from an appropriately rated instructor and include:
-
3 hours of instrument flight training within 2 calendar months prior to the date of practical test
-
Instrument flight training on cross-country flight procedures, including 1 cross-country that is performed under IFR, when a flight plan has been filed with an air traffic control facility, and that involves:

A flight of 250 nm along airways or by directed routing from ATC

An instrument approach at each airport
-
3 different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems
